New moon fire hoop

Hello hello
What a fantastic day this has turned out to be after all.

This is a post of some things I like.

-The drum circle tonight was riddled with old friends and faces- such a comforting surprize. There was much hula hooping (some daring gals with fire!), drumming of course, silly times in the bathroom line, chatting, hugs...I really felt wonderful and I think alot of other people did too.I am talking of course, about the famous, the infamous, the cosmic, and crazy Golden Gate Cafe here in Detroit.

It is a web that attracts the most outrageous energy and people. It has been the backgroud for alot of pivotal moments and stages of my personal growth. It is an oasis (figuratively and literally) in the middle of a pretty impoverished/ dangerous area of the city. There are people living in the houses around the area; homesteading, planting gardens, and cleaning up the city. Really amazing place, although it does go through its odd phases. You literally feel as though you are stumbling upon a tribal gathering as you stagger across the dirt parking lot to the fire-lit circle. This place always gets so intense in the summer time. I'm excited. http://www.innatedetroit.com/

-Miu Miu spring line. I sort of can't get enough of it...I love the dark silhouette shapes against sparkles and sheer fabric...So doll like and different.

-Good Earth Sweet and Spicy Tea. Yum! Recommended to me by my friend/boss. It really is some of the most delicious tea I have ever tasted. It reminds me of the tea their serve at this Ethiopian restaurant around here. (Find the tea at Trader Joes or worldpantry.com)

-The Casady sisters of Cocorosie. I can't get enough. Genius, freaky, queer, sexy, beautiful.

- I am really obsessed with this painting...but I absolutly cannot remember where it is from or who painted it...if anyone out there knows, drop me a comment.
I love the little subtle details...her sash that is turning in to a snake, her bracelet with faces on it...so dark and possessed.

-mmmm...so romantic. Via http://marieaunet.blogspot.com/.

- Also, where did this come from? Forest magick.

- This one is so oddly eerie..I think its those long fingernails. She looks like an old-worldy vampire or disguised siren. Via dianadistorted.livejournal.com

Then we gathered in a circle; stood round the rainbow fire

Ohhh Cocorosie...

They are faeries. Such a rich inspiration to me They are so fearless in their art and their lives.
This song in particular is like a crystal--so clear and light and cleansing.

Good energy swirling around today!
Slept in so so so late. bedroom floor campout sleepover.
kitties. sun. crazy love.

Hope everyone else felt it too.

Someday soon (i.e. when this semester ends in a couple of weeks)I will actually have time to write longer posts! For now, I leave you with Cocorosie and hope that will suffice. I'm thinking it probibly will, they're pretty awesome!

oh! also: my roomate and I got a huge lavender plant from our lovely friend Bela's mom (from her magical garden)!! It smells like a dreeeaaammm. spring has sprung!
Take a spring fashion clue from my dear stylin grandma in the fanciest of hats. Isn't she a dream? I miss her! Today I wrote an essay for my women's studies class about self-esteem in young women in the United States, anorexia, and the advertising industry. I realized that this dear lady's loving words to me as a child have helped me to grow into a confident woman. She always told me I was beautiful. Everyone needs to/ deserves to hear that.

Faeries

Hello all. A toe-curlingly delicious thundstorm is ensuing tonight! Thought it was a good time for a little late-night blogging about my favorite little winged fancies...

When I was a little girl, my parents had the most magickal bedroom. It was painted a deep deep green and was an attic room (which later became mine in highschool). My mother had Victorian-esque paintings on the walls, fancy lace-up boots, a closet full of paterened dresses, and delicate glass perfume bottles. Needless to say, the very dust was enchanted and it always smelled deliciously rich. She had a bottom drawer on her dresser which was of particular interest to me. Inside were lots of little treasures waiting to be explored with tiny hands. Essential oils, angel amulets, me and my brother's little baby teeth, glittering jewlery and a collection of little books about faeries.

"The word fairy derives from the Latin fata, or fate which refers to the mythical Fates, three women who spin and control the threads of life. An archaic English term for fairies is fays , which means 'enchanted' or 'bewitched. Fairies are said to possess magical powers and consort with witches and other magically empowered humans. They have many names and come in all manner of sizes, descriptions of beauty or ugliness, and demeanor from benevolence to turpitude. Most are small or tiny. Some resenble humans, and some have wings. Some always carry about a magical wand or a pipe. According to lore, fairies are invisible, except to humans with second sight or whenever fairies choose to make themselves seen. They pester humans who keep messy houses, or who do not leave out offerings of food or drink."
(Excerpt from the "Fairies" entry in a book I own entitled Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical and Paranormal Experience)

Above images from the Flower Fairies books which my mother so lovingly read to me as a child.
The following are the Cottingley fairies hoax photographs from 1917. I know they're fake, but still quite magical, no?

Hmm. Perhaps we should all keep a little space for faery energy, literally and emotionally. You know, that little part of the garden that is left wild and unkempt. I've heard they sometimes snip hair in the night and replace human babies with ugly changelings. Perhaps it would be best to leave a little sweet something out as a faery treat lest they decide to cause mischief!
